"Does anyone know if the county contributes to any other community libraries located in York County?"

I read that the Gresham Public Library receives aid as well. I can't locate the article specifically, but I know it is around here some where.

We are famous!, the forum was read about the library director who responded as to what formula is used to determine who pays what.

http://4york.blogspot.com/2009/05/significance.html

"The April 2009 statistics are fairly representative. 32.9% of items loaned in April 2009 were borrowed by rural York County residents. For the year May 2008 through April 2009 the percentage was 30.3%"

Does anyone know if the county contributes to any other community libraries located in York County? I didn't see that mentioned in the paper or the news video of the commissioner's meeting.

I have to agree with York_Curm. They asked people to donate for a statue, and people did. If they need to ask for donations to get new books or to stay in business, they can do that.

To me, public beautification and art constitutes a legitimate *use.* I would like to see some more art in the downtown area, much like Kearney has utilized bronze statues. We have enough eye sores in this town, it's nice that the library can look so nice in a town of our size. The county commission has sent some money the library's way in the past, I don't see why that shouldn't continue. As the one councilman pointed out, the library is in the county and provides a good service. Should we also not fund Blue Valley simply because it also resides in York? We are the county seat, it only makes sense to have the majority of services originate in our community.

That wasn't my point. I'm just saying that if they are going to get grants and donations, they should put the money where it can be used.

As nice or not as that statue may be, it serves no purpose. New books and computers would have been a huge help to the entire community.

The statue was a Friends of the Library project that was funded with donations and grants. No taxpayer money was used.

If our library relies on this money to keep things running then I do not see the problem. If this is just sitting in an account somewhere and not being used for necesseties and could be put to use somewhere else that is a different storiy.

A bit of irony, last summer a friend of mine who has direct ties to the Library was drinking a cold beverage wrapped in a "Bulgrin for County Commissioner" coozy.

I agree with Kurt Bulgrin. It really does not matter who uses it. We pay for it each time we buy something in the City of York. I would presume, the people that go to the library also do some shopping in York while they are there. Come on people, we complain about Washington stepping over the line and we can't even seem to right a wrong in our own system. I say NO to the YES men & YES to the NO man!

I appreciate the taping of the meeting when the matter was discussed, you guys did a great job on that one. I would like to see a piece with the library director regarding the number of people in other York county cities who utilize the library, as well as how often those people visit or chekc out material. Privacy can be protected to accomplish that and it wouldn't be that hard for them to compile a list to let the commissioners and public know more specifics.
