OK...tell that to the Olympic Athlete who misses getting a medal by .0001 second. Yeah, I'm sure he/she will be very to happy that they are so happy they lost but they were having fun!

so you are saying they will have wasted all their time and efforts just to lose?

QT-1, I find it hard to believe that you actually think winning is the most important thing, especially for kids. You sound like the mean coach on Mighty Ducks.

Something, like that...if you don't want to win then why play? I understand playing for fun, then stay home and play UNO. (but still try to WIN the UNO game) Recreational or intramural leagues are for fun, competative leagues are for winning!

we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I'm with Eck on this one. I believe at this level they should be teaching fundamentals and learning to love the game and the spirit of the game. Yeah it does kinda suck to loose, but how many times has somebody said "We lost, it would have been better off to not play at all". Buy putting the emphasis on winning it takes away from putting the emphasis on the game. I watched a movie once and the basketball team in this middle school was just awful, so their coach tried a new technique. They cheered whenever a basket was made, even if it was the other team. They choose to recognize the spirit and love of the game. The team still sucked, but they had fun and they didn't have the added pressure to win. I think putting that much pressure on kids hurts them.

QT-1, there is still a community rec league within Fusion. There are the Gold teams and the Blue teams. The Gold are the teams they required try-outs (which were judge by people outside of Fusion). If you did not make the Gold team then you still play on the Blue team (which my daughter will play on). This rec league will get skills training where as the former rec league in York did not (which is where my child had previously played). You also had the choice of not trying out and still playing on the Blue team.

My friend is very involved in Fusion and her daughter did not make the Gold team, so your assumption that only the children of the parents running the program made the teams is wrong!

Isn't this Blue Team being run by the same people that previously ran the community rec league? Yes, it is...I called the community center and was told that there is no longer a softball team run through the town or the community center. It is all private and the ladies that use to do it have now joined the Fusion and that now takes place of the teams that use to be run through the community center. So as I see it, same people - same teaching techniques - same skills learned - same everything - just a different name. A leopard can't change it's spots! For those of us who don't want any part of what the "Fusion" is doing and they way they went about it, there is no other team in town to play with - thanks to them (the Fusion), we have to join other towns, just so our kids can play.
Another question for whoever wants to answer...what is going to happen to the "York Softball Association" that was formed a few years ago? It seems to me that it should be dissolved as the people who have control of that money are now part of the Fusion. I don't think that people should have to pay a fee to play at a "City" park. I wasn't for it then and I still am not now.
I never said that ONLY the children of parents involved will make the team, I said that the so called "try-outs" weren't what they appeared to be, since most of the kids already knew long before "try-outs" that they were part of the team and what position they would be playing.
I have also heard that a few girls that made the "Gold" team, have now turned down the offer to play with them. I find that pretty funny!!!!

i dont think we should have to pay to play at the city parks for mens league, either. why shouldnt we just go play "pickup" games on the public fields and not have to pay to use them?

It was my understanding that the people running the previous rec league saw the need for a change. The only year my daughter learned new skills or rules of the game was the year she was coached by the Seevers. Her other coaches were very nice and had fun with the girls, but she did not learn anything new as she got older and moved up to the next age level. The Fusion softball program is just getting started and she attended the few clinicals they held at the Field House and came home excited to learn the proper way to bat, throw, catch, etc. AND she was learning all these skills with all the girls no matter what team they ended up on after try-outs. If things continue like this then I am very pleased with the change!!
