Not surprised "Avatar" got a bunch of nominations for its stunning effects and lack-luster story.

yeah, i thought the sfx were amazing, but the story was terrible and predictable. i really hope inglorious basterds wins.

Cameron has to win big time in the sfx categories, but I don't want Avatar to win Best Picture or Best Director, just on principle. If all the big awards just start going to the highest-grossing films, then it will become the Grammys.

precisely.

I haven't seen precious, An education or serious man yet. I think Serious Man comes out on DVD either this or next week.
If I had a vote it would be for Hurt Locker. I loved this movie. I thought it was brilliant in every aspect. I also liked INglorious Basterds. Up in the Air was a good movie but doesn't hold a candle to Locker. Avatar shouldn't win picture just cause the acting was average and the story was a mix of pocahantas and Dances with Wolves (and kind of racist). I think Director is a toss up between the ex husband and wife duo of Cameron and Bigelow. Cameron worked hard and even helped develop some of the technology for avatar, he did good work, but Bigelow made sure that every aspect of her movie was great. She gets my vote. Blindside and Up shouldn't be nominated, sorry just my opinion.
Here are the rest of my votes
Actor- will win Jeff Bridges, want to win Jeremy Renner
Actress - will win Streep, want to win Streep, she was brillant in that role
Sup Actress - will win Mo'Nique, want to win Anna Kendrick (she was really good)
Sup Actor - will win Christopher waltz, want to win, Christopher waltzIf you havent' seen Messenger yet, you should it's a great movie.

working hard and creating technology is not what the best director award is about, though.

It kind of is if that technology is used in to create an amazing movie. What I'm saying is that he has been involved in every aspect of this movie for over 8 years. He is deserving of the nomination.

tarantino has been involved of every aspect of basterds for at least that long. and at least he was able to come up with an original idea. cameron is a ripoff artist.
