Just thought that I had to comment on this case because I do know a little about it. I watched this case from beginning to end, and it is sad to see that all of our tax dollars are going to put people like Mindy behind bars. She did do what the courts asked her to do by going to treatment and a half way house. She didn't graduate the treatment facility but she did live without her kids for more than three months and did do the treatment and half way house so that the courts could see that she was trying. She didn't even get that noticed or considered for her sentencing. Also, What happened to the guy that was selling these drugs or trading these drugs to her to get his house clean. Wear are his charges for giving her drugs! She loves her kids with all of her heart and tries to do the best she can with the mental handicaps that she has developed and has to live with.... I just feel there should be more options for a case like this instead of throwing her in prison when she already has a family, a two year old girl and a five year old boy that doesn't understand why mommy has to always be out of there life but they cry every night before bed for her because she is loved and missed. Yet she was thrown to the ground by local sherrif's department and told that prison is where she was going! She would be the first one to admit that she has a problem, and she need continued help and support with this problem, but that shouldn't be a good enuf reason to keep her away from her kids, and fiance'! -----{admin edit}----- Mindy will be in jail until she can get the drug treatment succesfully done. I also think that the public pretender in this case was not very good with the mental side of things with Mindy. They knew because of things that had happened during arrainment and court presedings that Mindy was not all together and that you couldn't expect Mindy to understand or remember any parts that were vital for her to remember. Eric Williams stopped caring about his client and just left her in the field for the wolves to eat her, and thats where Sam Bethune picked the case up with. The letter that Mindy wrote the Judge should have been pulled and not letting into the courtroom because she sank her own boat by saying what she did on that letter. Where was her attorney to keep her from self incriminating herself even more!? As a father of Two, I think that the courts could and should of kept this mom in her kid's life monitoring that and teaching her to be a better parent, and wife to her family. Instead she is being taught how to treat other hardened criminals in the prison system, and fighting for her life on a daily basis! Four years incarserated and there are baby murderers out walking the streets! WOW, I think theres something wrong with the system -----{admin edit}-----....... Or in seward county and the famous Peterson charges that were dropped! But yet when a person has an addiction and is trying there best to get help and still do there part as a parent, she gets thrown in jail and the key is thrown away!

I like how you try to push her behavior onto the guy that was selling her the drugs.
Was he doing something illegal? Yes. Should he be consequenced for it? Yes. Does it excuse what she was doing? No.
You say that she didn't graduate from the treatment facility, but had to spend time away from her kids. That's is definitely unfortunate, but why didn't she graduate?

You made some valid points but you have to remember that Mindy needs to make her case stand on it's own, not compare it to others. I'm not saying the punishment for Mindy was too hard or too soft cause I don't know the ins and outs of what happened. I hope she gets the help she needs and I truly do hope her family can make it through all of this.

It is really sad that these kids are without a mother. But the mother should have known better. If she had had the the children's best interest at heart she may not have done the things she has done. My sister has been in prison many times now and she missed her children growing up because of it. Her children hardly have anything to do with her now, mainly cause they feel abandoned and angry by their mom and her actions. Perhaps you can share this story with Mindy so that when her time is served she can start over and start making up for her actions.

I think the judge finally got it right in this case. She obviously wasn't thinking of her children when she was taking the drugs. Was she trying to take care of her children while on a high from drugs?

The main point I was trying to get across is that drugs are a dead end, and I feel that Mindy has tried on many ocations to kick them, but has failed for the main reason and that is her choice! I think that What she did was wrong, but how did she know he had pills like that? Just know there's more to the story than meets the eye. Her children are very precious, and she should stand up and think about their needs as a priority, but I don't think that the prison system is the right place for people with problems like Mindy has. Why do murderers get off with a slap on the hand and it almost seams like society has forgiving them for there actions, But Mindy has to be stuck in this place for that long, and her kids and family have to live without her around. Hopefully Mindy can be a bigger person and get through all of these processes befor too long and she can get back to her family that she made and Live a life on life's terms. It was a total mess from the git go, and I am glad that Mindy has been off of the drugs as long as she has! I hope her and her family the best of luck and God will be with you, and won't put you guys even the kids, through anything they wont be able to handle!

Wow, I wouldn't want anyone to live the addiction that Mindy has been living for a long time, with society just trying to get you locked away, instead of looking at the problem at hand! Why deal with it when they can just lock these kind of people up and throw away their keys! May God be with Mindy every step of the way, and teach her everything that she needs to learn about herself so that she can continue being a part of her kids and fiance's life, and can figure out what she needs to figure out to be able to be a part of society again!

I don't know alot about this case and I will not pretend to, but hasen't she been in trouble with the law several times. If so wouldn't it be right to say that she has had several opportunities to get herself together for her and her childrens sake?

Dad-You are very critical of the man in this situation, but it appears as if he was taken advantage of by her. He uses a walker, is on medication, and obviously lives in some assisted living facility, as that is what the article implies when you read that she was caught on camera carrying out the goodies. He reported her, it wasn't as if the sheriff caught them red handed and let him off, which is what your post appears to imply. I re-read the link that eckert posted as I thought I could be mistaken about the gentleman in the article. If he was a pill pusher, I honestly doubt he would have reported her, that would've brought attention on himself and his "enterprise" if he was inclined to do that. I also honestly doubt that the sheriff, the York Police Department, or the school crossing guard would look the other way on this.
Anyone wish to give Gless credit for this sentence? Where is the peanut gallery on this beloved forum? Haters all. ;) I know, I know, scream and create ten threads about how permissive he is if he doesn't sentence a jaywalker to life.

dad123,
You talk about murderers out there walking free, stop. I can talk all day about this criminal or that criminal who did or did not get sentenced for something. You need to look at this case and the facts and stop trying to belittle her actions through the actions of others.

Careful, York_Curmudgeon, now dad123 will blast you for bringing up the fact that the man had a walker.
