Avenue of Flags
National Guardsmen, Bruce Wagner and many donors have provided one of the most impressive displays in York — The Avenue of Flags.
The more than 300 flags are displayed along Lincoln Avenue through York. The display now extends far past the intersection of Highway 34 in the northern portion of the city — possibly making it one of the longest displays of Old Glory in the nation.
The stunning display, in its origin, was hung between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. That schedule, and the commitment, has been extended — due to the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 and the War on Terrorism.
Many of the flags have been donated by family members of veterans, as well as service organizations, children and patriotic individuals.
