Law enforcement programs
- Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers International plays an active role in York County providing law enforcement leads on crimes or potential crimes.  Also, the line serves as an alcohol party hotline to fight underage drinking. Anonymity is guaranteed and rewards are paid on a case by case basis.

The phone number for York County Crime Stoppers is 362-2999. Calls on this line cannot be traced.  Callers leaving crime information will be assigned an identification number by a dispatcher or officers at the York Police station and will be asked to call back after two weeks. If investigators have made significant progress on a case using the informant’s tip,  the informant may be offered a reward. Crime Stoppers Coordinator Sgt. Norm Cobb said the typical reward is between $100 and $1,500. Calls on the alcohol party hot line are rewarded $25. The informant will be told to pick up the reward at a bank 25 miles outside of York County. The informant tells a bank clerk the identity number, the check is signed with the number, and the informant leaves with the money.

Crime Stoppers Coordinator Cobb reports to a 24-member citizens’ board once a month. Reward fees are raised from local donations through a fund-raising committee.

- Rural Apprehension Program (R.A.P.)
The York Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office are active members of the Rural Apprehension Program (RAP), a 16-county drug task force that investigates drug activity allied. RAP is funded jointly by member counties and towns, and has facilitated numerous arrests in York County through a team of undercover investigators.
