Community Centers
York
The Community Center in York has a gymnasium, racquetball court, basketball court, game room, fitness equipment, a weight room, indoor swimming pool, a whirlpool. Community Center hours are (summer) M-F, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday, noon-6 p.m.; Sunday, closed. (School year), M-F, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, noon-9 p.m.; Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
Daily fees are $3 for adults and $2.50 for youth/college. Yearly fees are $250 for families, $175 for adults, $75 for college students, $55 for youth. Monthly fees are $45 family, $25 for adults and $15 college and youth. People interested in playing in leagues should inquire at the Community Center. York has baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball leagues and a swim team for ages 6-18. The Community Center also houses the Anna Bemis Palmer Museum. The museum is open Monday-Friday from noon to 9 p.m. The Community Center phone number is 363-2630.
Bradshaw
The Village of Bradshaw has a two-story community center on 455 Lincoln St. with a gymnasium. The Community Center can be rented for wedding receptions, graduations, etc. Capacity is 300 people. A meeting room is also available. Call the village office at 736-4634 for information on the gym.
Parks
York
- Beaver Creek Park has three miles of walking and bicycle trails following Beaver Creek. Fitness stations line the trail for total body exercise. Entrances to the park are at Platte Avenue and Elm Street, Kingsley Avenue near Third Street, just south of First and Nebraska, and at Blackburn Avenue and Nobes Road. The park also includes picnic tables, grills, playground equipment and baseball/softball fields. Fishing is allowed in the creek.
- Harrison Park is located at Fourth Street and Kingsley Avenue, and is the location of the city’s Municipal Pool. It marks the entrance (or ending) of Beaver Creek Park. Harrison Park has outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, playground equipment and the largest assortment of covered picnic shelters.
- East Hill Park is located at Sixth Street and Blackburn Avenue, south of York College and next to Levitt Stadium. It has handicapped accessible playground equipment, sand volleyball courts, picnic shelters, grills and play areas. Tennis courts are located near the park.
- Miller Park, 19th Street and East Avenue, surrounds three ball diamonds. It has picnic tables and grills, playground equipment and restrooms.
- Duke Park is next to York High school and has a baseball/softball diamond and a playground.
- Foster Park, located on the corner of Second Street and East Avenue, features an arboretum, thousands of perennial flowers, plants and trees. A parking area is located on the east side of the park, which also has a large hill for sledding in the winter and bike riding in the summer. The park is a favorite for artists and photographers, as the beauty of its landscape is unprecedented in this area.
- Mincks Park is new to the city, with nearly 40 acres of new land being added to the stock of green space. It is the site of the new family aquatic center, a more-than-$3 million facility with play features, slides, concessions and zero-depth entry. The park is being developed and landscaped. Future plans include covered picnic shelters and more.
Benedict
Benedict Park is near the post office on Main Street. It has tennis courts, basketball hoops, shelters, grills, electrical outlets and picnic tables.
Bradshaw
Bradshaw Park is located next to the Bradshaw Community Center on Lincoln Street. It features a modern playground, a covered picnic shelter, grills and a horseshoe pit.
Gresham
- Gresham Bicentennial Park is located on Rose and Pine Streets. It has playground equipment, lighted tennis and basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, picnic tables, covered picnic shelters and a grill.
- Gresham Park is located beside the Presbyterian Church on Post Street between Elm and Pine Streets. It has playground equipment and picnic tables.
Henderson
- Lakeview Park is located on West Front Street. It has walking paths, an outdoor aquatic park, two tennis courts, two play structures, a one-mile walkway, two picnic shelters with electricity and tables. Fishing and small boats are allowed on the newly renovated lake.
- Downtown Park is located on 14th Street between Ceder and Elm Streets. It features a playground, a stage area, gazebo, picnic areas and one picnic shelter.
McCool Junction
- Village Green Park is located near the town hall on Main Street. It has picnic tables and a merry-go-round.
- McCool Park is located two blocks north of the co-op elevator. It features a playground, picnic shelters, grills, volleyball net and a baseball/softball field. Restrooms and a camping area equipped with electrical hook-ups are available. Call the Town Hall at 724-2525 if interested in having a family picnic or other events at the park.
Waco
- Ellison Park is located on Hilda Avenue. It has a football field, lighted baseball diamond, lighted tennis courts, a grass walking track around the football field for walking or running, a playground, picnic tables, restrooms. The phone at the ballfield is 728-5571.
- Wellman Park is on Midland St. in downtown Waco. It has a gazebo, picnic tables, a picnic shelter and playground equipment.
Golf
York
The York Country Club on 1016 W. Elm Street has a 18-hole golf course, a driving range, golf shop and offers full dining at a clubhouse completed in 1999. The new facilities have proven to be a drawing card for new membership and tournaments as well. Additional fees include cart and storage fees, cart lease, locker rental and event fees. Green fees for non-members playing with members are $14 for 9 holes, $27 for 18 holes. Individual and group golf lessons are available. Call 362-3720 for more information. Henderson
Gallaway Creek Golf Course

The golf course was built in 1982. It also features a professional shop, a driving range, a 38-cart storage shed and cart rental facilities.
The golf course office is open from 8 a.m. till dusk Monday through Saturday. On Sunday hours are noon to dusk.

Prices: For nine holes, $11, $6 for each additional round
Driving range prices: small bucket of balls $2, large bucket of balls $3.
Cart rentals: For nine holes, $7 per person. $5 each additional round.

Waco
Sandy Meadows Golf Course
Location: south of the Waco interchange, exit 360, on Interstate 80. Just past Double Nickel entrance, no association with the campground.

On Monday and Wednesday nights the course is closed to the public starting at 5:30 p.m. League nights include men’s league on Monday, women’s league on Tuesday, and couples’ league on Wednesday.
Size of course: nine holes.
Price: During the week, $10 for 9 holes, $12 for 18 holes; weekends, $12 for 9 holes, $15 for 18 holes., $20 for all day.
Cart rentals: $20 for all-day use.
Membership fees: Single-$250; Family-$300.
Tee-times are required on weekends, not required during the week. For rental cart reservation, call one day in advance. Snack bar available.
Lakes / nature areas
Recharge Lake (Bruce L. Anderson Recreation Area) is 1 1/2 miles west of York on Fourth Street. It was developed as part of a Natural Resource District research project. Allowed on the lake is fishing and non-motorized boating. The small lake is stocked with bluegill, bass and catfish.
Also available at the recreation area are boat ramps, picnic areas and picnic shelters, grills, drinking water, primitive camping, hiking trails, a visitors’ center and wildlife habitat.
Wildlife
Kirkpatrick North Wildlife Management Basin is located 1/2 mile north of York and one mile east of 1-80 exit 348. Kirkpatrick is a wetland that serves as the home to annual duck and geese migration. Thousands of duck and geese can be seen in this area from March to May as they return north for the summer.
Overland Trails recreation area has a small reservoir, and is open for public access. Another Natural Resources District project, it has places for primitive camping, picnicking and hiking. There are no restrooms or water. Public access: County Road O between Roads 12 and 10. Located at the site of historic Overland Trail, construction began in September, 1997.

Henderson
The Prarie Oasis Campground has 50 long-level pull throughs with up to 50 amp service. It includes big rig sites, generous tent sites, and cabin rentals.
The campground has clean restrooms and showers, convenience store, a game room, laundry mat, facilities for horseshoes, volleyball, softball and a lake for catch-and-release fishing.
Honors all travel club cards.
Open April 1-October 31.
The York County Fairgrounds and the village of Bradshaw have camping hook-ups available if reservations are made ahead of time. Call the York County Extension Office at 362-5508 to inquire on the fairgrounds or the Bradshaw Town Hall at 736-4634. McCool Junction has camping hook-ups and restrooms at McCool Park.
